Last Monday, January 26th, Salem Beds, in coordination with SM Home, celebrated the New Year with the opening of the Salem Elite collection exhibit titled ‘Bed of Both Worlds’. The gathering featured Master Couturier, Cary Santiago’s bedroom styling, highlighting four bedroom suites with the Elite beds as centerpieces to showcase different lifestyles. Hosted by the entertainment industry veteran, Apo Hiking Society’s Mr. Jim Paredes and the ever fabulous host, Ms. Angel Jacob, the event was held in the Mega Fashion Hall at SM Megamall.

Easy Stretching Exercises for Better Sleep

A lot of people find it so difficult to fall asleep every night. This can be caused by a plethora of reasons – from their diet to their lifestyle in general. However, you should never lose hope and succumb to a life of sleep deprivation as there are ways how you can deal with sleeplessness.

One of the techniques experts suggest when it comes to dealing with sleep deprivation is to do some stretching. If you are familiar with yoga, you will know what stretching can do for your relaxation and calmness. Applying the idea of yoga to your battle against your sleeping issues is a great way to tackle the problem head on, as it is a healthy and easy method that you can try.

To help you out, we’ve searched for five of the easiest stretches that you can carefully try at home to help improve your slumber.

1. Legs Up The Wall  or Viparita Karani

Perfect for those who have lower back pains, this stretch is fairly easy. Sit your tailbone close to the wall and stay in position for up to five minutes to achieve a soothing effect. It can also drain lactic acid from your legs, making you feel more relaxed as you drift off to sleep.

2. Child’s Pose or Balasana

To help release the tension on your lower back, the Child’s Pose is a great stretch that you can hold for as long as you like. With arms on your side or extended to your front like in the photo above, sit on your heels with your shins resting comfortably on your bed. Fold your body over your thighs and relax.

3. Easy Forward Bend or the Sukhasana Forward Bend

A variation of the Sukhasana, the Easy Forward Bend is a lot like the Child’s Pose, except for the sitting position where you’ll have to start with your legs crossed and your bottom touching the bed surface or floor. You will then fold forward with both arms extended above your head. Like the others on this list, it is an easy stretch that can open the hips and release the body’s accumulated tension.

4. Corpse Pose or Savasana

Possibly the easiest stretch there is in this list, the Corpse is basically lying flat on your back with your limbs spread slightly apart. The key here is to fully relax by focusing on your breathing. The Corpse pose will ready you to sleep, as long as you free your mind of the day’s worries.

5. Reclining Butterfly or Supta Baddha Konasana

Another stretch that can help release stress is the Reclining Butterfly pose, where you will bring your feet together, with the undersides touching each other and putting your legs into a diamond shape. If you feel like you’re going to stress your lower back from this pose, you can also cushion the area with some folded blanket or a pillow.

Just remember to do these stretches carefully as moving to rashly may hurt you. Also, ensure that you’re going to rest on a comfortable bed, as your mattress could also be the root cause for your sleeplessness. Refresh Your Bedroom: Tricks for Your Space for the New Year

Aside from your New Year’s resolution, another way to feel new this 2015 is by refreshing your bedroom. By editing your room a little bit, you can create a new and exciting space for yourself, which is always a great way to greet a new beginning.

The thing, however, with making a change in your bedroom is that it can take a lot of effort – something not many has the time and energy for. What with having to juggle a day job, raising a family, and possibly enjoying a hobby or working on a sideline project, there’s simply hardly any time for some to work on their homes. Luckily, there are a number of ways how you can actually go on about refreshing your room easily. In this article penned by Nancy Mitchell for the blog Apartment Therapy, she dished out some of the handiest tips how you can refresh and re-energize your space in five easy ways:

1. Get rid of things.
Earlier this year I got rid of about half my furniture. I was sort of forced into it: I was staging my house to sell, and everyone knows that a house looks bigger with less stuff in it. My house did look bigger, post-purge, but what surprised me the most was how much more I liked my house. (It almost made me not want to move after all!) Getting rid of furniture meant that the pieces that were left were ones I really liked, and that they had room to breathe.

So try this at home: go into a room, and pick out one piece that doesn’t really need to be there. Or just get rid of a little bit of clutter. Bonus: if you sell your old things on Ebay or Craigslist, you can actually make money while improving your home.

2. Move furniture (and art!) from room to room.
When I shot Sarah Hazel’s house tour, she gave me a bit of advice for keeping your home feeling fresh: “I think that furniture gets bored staying in the same place all the time. Rearrange often.” Sure enough, the next time I visited her home, furniture, art, and tchotckes had wandered all over the place. Even though it was the same stuff, I felt like I was seeing these things for the first time.

So shake up your house with a little re-arranging. Move a rug from your bedroom into the living room. Hang a big painting in the bathroom. If you’re feeling really bold, you could switch two rooms entirely. You’ll feel like you have a whole new house, but it won’t cost you anything (except maybe beer for your furniture-moving friends).

3. Finish a project you’ve been working on for a long time.
Everyone who is even slightly DIY-inclined has a dirty secret: at least one project that lies moldering in a cabinet or garage, waiting to be completed. Want your home to feel fresh and new? Finish it! You’ve already paid for the materials, and finishing that project will free up space, add something new to your home, and give you the satisfaction of completing something you started.

4. Do a deep clean.
Yeah, yeah. Cleaning is boring. But cleaning, especially when your home really needs it, is also deeply satisfying. Tidy up, do a deep clean, open up the windows for some fresh air, and you may feel like you have a whole new space.

5. Change your perspective.
Don’t feel like moving furniture? You can always move you. As I write this, I am sitting on the same side of the dining room table that I always sit on. On the other side of the table, there is a whole half of a room that I have never experienced. I think we all get into these house ruts — sitting in the same spot on the sofa, sleeping on the same side of the bed. Try changing it up. You may see your home in whole new way.

While these tips will still take some time and effort in accomplishing, it is still on a smaller scale than having to renovate or get an interior designer to help you out. It’s also something you can try on a weekend or two (or may be even during the upcoming holidays for NCR residents), as most can be done in conjunction with each other.

As they say, with the New Year, out with the old, and in with the new. Such can be applied to your bedroom, especially if you’re starting to feel bored and tired with how it feels and looks. Just do not forget to always prioritize comfort, as this is still one of the most important features you can have in your home, especially your bedroom.
